Carlos
Castaneda kept his life very secretive, not allowing himself to be
filmed or photographed, but from 1996 to 1998, a couple (Greg Mamishian
and Gaby Geuter) were spying on him, and in the following video you can
see several recordings they made of him.
The following can be heard in the video:
« Castaneda, who was nearing 70, claimed to lead a solitary and celibate life, but
it soon became clear that this was far from the truth. Two of his
closest disciples, Florinda Donner and Taisha Abelar, shared his house;
and a third woman visited him regularly. These women were always by
Castaneda's side and were known to his followers as "the witches". »
The
video features the BBC logo, the UK's public broadcaster, and knowing
that they aired a documentary about Carlos Castaneda in 2006, I deduce
that they incorporated this video into this documentary. And indeed they
did; you can see it in its entirety from 46:05 to 46:45 in this other
video:
1. The first scene indicates that it was taken on April 26, 1997 (when Castaneda was 71 years old).
First,
an older person wearing dark glasses appears, whom I cannot recognize,
and enters Carlos Castaneda's residence at 4:11 pm. The residence is
located in the Westwood district of Los Angeles, California, USA.
Two
hours later, Carlos Castaneda and a woman (who appears to be Nury
Alexander, Castaneda's adopted daughter) are seen leaving the residence
to get into the car parked in front.
There is also a third person who I don't recognize but who is probably one of the "witches".
2.
In the second scene, I think it's Taisha Abelar (one of Castaneda's
witches) shown from the front, and Nury Alexander appears in the
background.
3. In the third scene, Carlos Castaneda is seen getting into a car.
4.
The fourth scene indicates that it was taken on March 29, 1998, and
shows Carlos Castaneda in a very deteriorated state of health, being
helped by Nury to get out of a car to enter his house.
One month later, Carlos Castaneda died on April 27, 1998, at the age of 72 from liver cancer.
