Regarding
the encounters that the illusionist Uri Geller had with Carlos
Castaneda, the researcher Manuel Carballal recounted the following:
« I found a CIA document that mentions a congress that was going to be
held in, I believe, Costa Rica, in which Carlos Castaneda and Uri Geller
are mentioned in the same document.
I had met Uri Geller a few years earlier; I'd had a
couple of encounters with him. He is famous for bending spoons. So I
decided to look up his phone number. He was living in London, and I
discovered he had just moved to Tel Aviv, Israel, since he is Israeli.
Then
with the help of a friend we located him, I called him and said: "You
will remember me, I am Manuel Carballal, we met in Spain, I am calling
you because I just found some CIA documents where your name appears next
to Carlos Castaneda; and I wanted to ask you if you met
Castaneda."
And he answered me: "Yes, we were very good friends, Andrija Puharich introduced us."
And then he tells me his story of how he met Castaneda, how he became involved with him, Uri told me:
"Puharich wrote a few books, one of them was titled 'The Sacred Mushroom: Key to the Door of Eternity
'. It was a book about a mushroom that had hallucinatory properties,
but I don't remember if Puharich did his tests in Mexico or Brazil
because it happened a long time ago.
I met Puharich while I was being studied at the Stanford Research Institute.
Puharich knew Carlos Castaneda and took me to meet him in a place called Westwood in California. I remember we went there with a man named Feeby Wood who drove us in his car, a Lincoln Continental.
I
remember very well how Castaneda was astonished by my abilities; of
course, I bent a spoon and read his mind, and then he took me to a room
alone without Puharich and told me many things about his work, his
belief system, the time he spent in Mexico, etc.
I
saw him again on several occasions, for example I saw him again after
my work in Mexico City (which was also for the CIA), and also for
President López Portillo, who made me a Mexican citizen because I found
oil for Pemex.
So
it doesn't surprise me to see my name on the same CIA paper, because I
have no doubt that the CIA also followed Carlos Castaneda since for them
he was an enigma.
I remember that around 1973, Carlos showed me an article where he had appeared on the cover of Times magazine.
Around
that time, Castaneda disappeared from the public eye. He deeply
believed that everything he wrote in his books was real. And the reason
Castaneda was so interested in meeting me was because Puharich wrote a
book about me titled 'The Mystery of Uri Geller'." »

OBSERVATIONS
Uri
Geller turned out to be a very deceitful individual, so perhaps he did
perform his act of bending one of his prepared spoons in front of
Castaneda, but I highly doubt he was able to read his mind.
But Castaneda did live in Westwood, and I get the impression that Uri Geller did have those encounters with Castaneda.
