Wolfgang Freiherr von Bibra (1862-1922) was an Austrian soldier who
belonged to the cavalry of his country. Later around 1888 he moved to New York
with his young wife and his little daughter, where he lived modestly through
his hobby of being a painter.
In 1916 he was hired by AMORC to paint the portraits
of masters Kuthumi and Morya.
Wolfgang based his paintings on the portraits that the German painter
Hermann Schmiechen made of the theosophical masters in 1884.
AMORC published the portraits Wolfgang painted in its magazine “The American Rosae Crucis” on June and
August 1916, and AMORC was selling those portraits to their members during this
period as shown the advertising AMORC placed in its magazine on June, July,
and August 1916:
