MASTER SERAPIS DESCRIBED BY ALICE BAILEY

Alice Bailey, in her book “Initiation Human and Solar” (1922) about Master Serapis, she wrote:

« The Master Serapis, frequently called the Egyptian. He is the Master upon the fourth ray, and the great art movements of the world, the evolution of music, and that of painting and drama, receive from Him an energizing impulse.

At present He is giving most of His time and attention to the work of the deva, or angel evolution, until their agency helps to make possible the great revelation in the world of music and painting which lies immediately ahead. More about Him cannot be given out, nor can His dwelling place be revealed.

Much of the work of the Master Serapis was taken over by The Master P., when the latter turned His attention to the deva evolution. »
(Chapter VI, Section “Some teachers and their work”, p.60)

Here, Alice Bailey tells a great falsehood and is that a human master (no matter how evolved he is), he cannot take charge of the angelic evolution, since the angelic kingdom is a kingdom HIGHER to the human kingdom.

To give you an analogy, it's as if she said that an animal is going to take over the evolution of the human kingdom.

That makes no sense!

Why then did Alice Bailey affirm that?

Because she copied this idea from Leadbeater’s teachings, since in his book “The Hidden Side of Things” (1913), Leadbeater described (as according to his own beliefs) how is the evolution of the life through the different kingdoms.

And you can observe that most advanced humans (Adepts) are above the angels’ kingdom (Devas) with the exception of the "Higher Mental Devas".

The detail is that this diagram is erroneous, since the angelic realm is a kingdom higher to the human kingdom and not parallel to the human kingdom as it appears in Leadbeater's diagram.

And that means that many of the beings that are currently evolving in the human kingdom, in the next cosmic cycle, will evolve as angels. And many of the beings that are currently evolving in the animal kingdom, in the next cosmic cycle they will evolve as humans.

(Because you must know that that the beings that were successful in their evolution during the kingdom they belong to, in the next cosmic cycle will develop into the next evolutionary step.)

And this is affirmed by the true Theosophy as witnessed Geoffrey Farthing in his book “The Deity, The Cosmos and Man”:

« The angelic hierarchies or as they are called in theosophy The Dhyani Chohans (who literally in Sanskrit means "The Lords of Light") are the entities that are part of the post-human kingdoms. And they are also the divine intelligences that drive the processes of the Cosmos, and ruling the lower intelligences called the elementals or spirits of nature. »
(Glossary)

And it is not the only teaching that assures it, since also other teachings that I respect say the same. For example, the book “Talking with Angels” gives the following classification in conversation 44:

  • The created world is composed of mineral, vegetal and animal kingdom, and
  • The creator world is composed of the kingdom of the Angels, the kingdom of the Seraphim and God.

Each kingdom of the physical world is destined to unite with a kingdom of the divine world, but there is an abyss that separates the two worlds.

And that is the work of the human being: to be the bridge between the physical world and the divine world so that the union can be realized.

We see that humans have a very important role to play in creation which is to allow the union between the created world and the creative world. But for the same reason, the human kingdom remains below the angelic kingdom.

The second occasion where Alice Bailey mentions Master Serapis is in her book “A Treatise on Cosmic Fire” (1925) where at the end of the book she puts a diagram where supposedly Djwal Khul describes a part of the Divine hierarchy.

(This diagram is in the third part, section A, p.1237-8)

And there we see that Master Serapis (4 right) appears as a member of low level equivalent to level of Djwal Khul (d in the middle) and even inferior to the level of Kuthumi and Morya. (c left and middle).

BUT THIS IS COMPLETELY FALSE !!!

Because the own Mahatmas Kuthumi and Morya affirmed several times in the letters that they wrote to Mr. Sinnett and Mr. Hume that Serapis was their teacher and their chief.

Some examples:

·        "He (Serapis) is my Master." (ML11, p64)
·        "Before giving a precise answer to your request, I wish to consult with our venerable Master." (ML105, p441)
·        "He is the one who has the final word on whether we accept a person as a regular disciple or not." (ML30, p236)
·        "I had already resolved to humbly request permission from our chief Serapis to grant me a special privilege in this deplorable necessity." (ML54, p320)
·        "If we had to choose between disobeying the slightest mandate of our Lord Serapis or losing our good reputation before you, we would not hesitate for a moment" (ML29, p226)

So as you can see, Master Serapis has an important position and this is confirmed by Colonel Olcott, who was one of the founders of the Theosophical Society and a disciple of Master Morya, and on one occasion he told to Mr. Sinnett that:

-       "Serapis is the youngest of the leaders of the planetary hierarchy." (ML3A, p.10)

And in his Diary book, Olcott wrote:

-       "Serapis is the Teacher of our Masters, a Paramaguru; as one such is called in India." (ODL2, p.431)

Therefore, it does not make sense the position where Alice Bailey places Master Serapis, and which is antagonistic to reality.

CONCLUSION

These big mistakes that Alice Bailey makes in her work when describing Master Serapis is another factor that makes me very much doubt that she really have been in contact with Djwal Khul and the Masters' Brotherhood, because if I, that I am a simple researcher, and I don’t have any direct contact with the Masters, I realize those big mistakes. It is not possible that Alice Bailey, who supposedly was in contact with the Masters, did not realize that she was writing big mistakes. And still less Djwal Khul who being one of the main disciples of Kuthumi, he was followed in contact with Serapis.

Aw, this was a very nice post. Spending some
time and actual effort to create a top notch article… but what can I say…
I put things off a lot and don't manage to get anything done.

I think this is mostly a confusion due to a tendency to simplification.

Alice Bailey's division is not just about points of evolution/initiation levels, but also about ray-forces and their interrelations. The 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th rays are sub-rays (minor rays) developed out of the major rays 1, 2, 3. This does not imply that Rays 4-7 are of a 'lower order', but they are of a different quality.

The masters on the rays 4-7 take turns as the regents for a certain developmental period; at that moment heading the civilisational department. So, they are very well able to head such a high office and need not be "below" the Venetian master (the 'lowest' master on the 3rd ray) in terms of initiation/development. Especially the lower Masters on the 1/2/3 rays (Kuthumi and Morya as you say, and D.K. also presumably) could therefore be below Serapis in terms of their level of evolution. Therefore, Serapis (heading the 4th Ray Ashram), and as the youngest "leader" of the planetary hierarchy, could easily be between "A, B, C" and "c, c, c" in terms of their own development.

In other words: we know so little about their realities, that it may easily be the case that all of these things are true simultaneously, from different perspectives and with different nuances.
