THE PHOTOS OF FRANZ HARTMANN

The photo we know of Franz Hartmann where he appears younger is the following one where I estimate that he would have been around 30 years old and therefore I suppose that it was taken in America when he was there for the pleasure of adventure.

The following image is from when Franz Hartmann was a spiritualist in the United States; I don't know if it's a photograph or a drawing:

The following photograph was taken at the Annual Convention of the Theosophical Society held in December 1883 in Adyar, India. Standing on the right is Colonel Olcott , and below him are Blavatsky and Franz Hartmann .

This photo was probably taken at the  1884 Convention; in the  middle are Hartmann, Olcott, and Blavatsky.

But the most famous photo of him is this one where I estimate he was in his forties , and therefore I suspect it was taken around 1886 on his return to Europe , when Franz Hartmann was 47 years old and after having spent 16 months in India at the Headquarters of the Theosophical Society of Adyar in Madras.

And the following photo appears to have been taken around that time as well .

In 1897, at the age of 65, Franz Hartmann traveled to the United States again, but this time to participate in a lecture tour, and the Theosophical Society, led by Katherine Tingley, wrote an article in its magazine " Theosophy " to introduce him, in which they included the following photo in the June 1897 publication (vol. 12, p. 88) :

And this photo above (plus the more well-known photo) also appeared in the autobiography that Franz Hartmann wrote for the English magazine “ Occult Review ” and which was published in January 1908 (p.7-35).

This photo appears to have been taken during the same photo shoot:

And perhaps Franz Hartmann took advantage of being in America to take this photo dressed in cowboy style to remember his adventurous days.

The following photo ( which also includes his signature ) was found in the archives of the Theosophical Society in America.

And I found these three more photos where Franz Hartmann appears older and which were probably taken in Germany where he resided during the end of his life.

 

 

 

 

And I also found what appears to be a painted portrait of him, but by an unknown artist.

And the cover of two German books about him.

And what I perceive through these photos is that Franz Hartmann was a man with a strong character and great willpower, as he has a penetrating gaze and shows features of someone who will not be overthrown.
