CARLOS CASTANEDA ASKED A MAN TO IMPREGNATE HIS WIFE

In January 1960, Carlos Castaneda married an American woman named Margaret Runyan.

Margaret wanted to have a child, but Castaneda could no longer conceive because he had had a vasectomy, so to please his wife he looked for a surrogate.

In the fall of 1960, Castaneda met a tall, blond Swedish businessman named Adrian Gerritsen Jr. Shortly afterward, Castaneda asked Gerritsen to get his wife pregnant. Gerritsen replied that it would have to be to her liking.

Soon after, the three (Castaneda, Margaret, and Gerritsen) met. Margaret liked him, Gerritsen accepted, and later he and Margaret had a love affair that produced the desired goal.

GERRITSEN'S LETTER TO MARGARET

This letter was submitted in November 1998 by Castaneda's son in support of his statement during the probate proceedings of Carlos Castaneda:

This letter says:

« Hi Margaret,

You asked me to reconfirm my meeting with you and Carlos Castaneda. A friend of mine who was working in Los Angeles, his name: W.L Dawis, introduce you and Carlos to me while I attended a meeting in Los Angeles.

I met with Carlos after our initial meeting and we seemingly had a lot in common. We became friends.

Not long after the initial meeting, I was back in Los Angeles and met with Carlos again. He asked me a confidential question, "would I father a child for him". His said Margaret, his wife would agree.

I said it would have to be agreeable with Margaret.

A short time later we, Carlos, Margaret and myself met at the restaurant called "Star of india" near Vermont street. Carlos liked that food. We agreed and did meet and in our conversation I agreed wit Carlos and Margaret.

Margaret and I did have an affair and this affair produced the desired result for carlos. He was happy and said so to me.

This is the way circumstances were with margaret, Carlos and myself.

Yours truely.
Adrian Gerritsen. »

I suspect that Adrian Gerritsen did not write this letter because it sounds strange, it is not signed, and it is typed.

MARGARET'S STORY

Furthermore, that letter contradicts the account Margaret gave in her book "A Magical Journey with Carlos Castaneda" where she states that she was the one who met Adrian Gerritsen and that this motivated her to separate from Castaneda:

« After meeting a slender, blond businessman named Adrian Gerritsen, I pressured Carlos to divorce me. He refused. But in the weeks following our separation, I persisted, and finally, after much persuasion, I managed to get Carlos to agree. »
(p.93)

In her book Margaret says that Castaneda was present during the birth and he developed a strong attachment to the child who was born, and Castaneda insisted that Margaret sign documents before the Department of Public Health stating that he was the legal father (Ibid.).

WHAT IS TRUE IN ALL OF THIS?

We don't know if Castaneda asked Gerritsen to impregnate his wife, or if Margaret had an affair with Gerritsen on her own, but it is a fact that she gave birth in Los Angeles on August 12, 1961, to a blond, blue-eyed baby boy, who was named Carlton Jeremy Castaneda at birth, and that Carlos Castaneda loved this child very much when he was little, as these photos show:
