Carlos Castaneda kept his identity very secret, but over time some photos of him have appeared.
This is the oldest photograph I've found of him, where he appears as a child with his parents and sister:
In the following photo, she appears with her mother:
Here it is, already grown:
When he was a teenager:
The following photo was taken when Carlos Castaneda was living in the United States. The buildings that appear in the background belong to the Los Angeles City College (LACC) where Castaneda began studying psychology but did not finish his degree.
The
following photos were taken in 1959 (when Castaneda was 33 years old)
at his graduation with a degree in anthropology from the University of
California, Los Angeles (UCLA):
This is the only photograph that Castaneda presented to the public, but in which he covers his face with his hand:
This
photo is said to have been taken in 1962, and the woman next to
Castaneda is Mary Joan Barker, who was one of his many lovers.
I found this photo without any information where it appears to be Castaneda laughing:
This
photo is said to have been taken in 1964, and the child accompanying
him is the son Castaneda adopted of his first wife.
From
1997 to 1998, a couple (Greg Mamishian and Gaby Geuter) were spying on
Castaneda and managed to film him on several occasions, and below I will
show you several photographs of those recordings.
1. Here Castaneda leaves his house on April 26, 1997 (when he was 71 years old) accompanied by his adopted daughter Nury Alexander:
2. Here you can see Carlos Castaneda getting into a car:
3.
This video was taken on March 29, 1998, and shows Castaneda very
weakened by cancer, being helped by Nury to get out of a car to enter
his house.
This
photograph appeared in several newspaper articles that announced his
death a few weeks later, which occurred on April 27, 1998, at the age of
72, but I'm not sure that it really is him.
